Ribbon Cutting for $21M Rebuild Project at Vare Recreation Center

Meliora Design joined in the festivities as the City of Philadelphia celebrated the reopening of Vare Recreation Center, the largest completed Rebuild Initiative project in the city.

Meliora provided civil engineering services on the $21 million project, including engineering support for the demolition of the old building as well as civil design and permitting for the new features, including a 19,000 SF LEED Silver rec center building, new playgrounds, basketball courts, a water spray area, new streetscape sidewalks, curb cuts, ADA ramps, and stormwater management.  Vare was also the first of Philadelphia’s 183 recreational centers to be outfitted with fiber optic internet access.

Former Philadelphia Eagle Connor Barwin spearheaded the project through his nonprofit, Make the World Better.  The ribbon cutting ceremony also drew local dignitaries such as Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker and State Senator Anthony H. Williams.
