Alverthorpe Park
Abington Township, PA
Cerulean Environmental identified Alverthorpe Park as a potential location for the construction of a stormwater practice to manage runoff from adjacent developed areas. Unmanaged stormwater runoff from adjacent neighborhoods currently discharges into a pond in Alverthorpe Park. The pond is along the East Branch of Jenkintown Creek, which is a tributary to the Tacony Creek. Major goals of the project include improving water quality, reducing erosion, and increasing public awareness and education.
First, Meliora provided stormwater planning, analysis and concept design. A maintenance parking lot was chosen as the location to provide subsurface stormwater storage. Meliora developed technical materials for grant applications submitted by Cerulean. The technical materials included a watershed analysis, pollutant load reduction summary, runoff analysis, concept design and cost estimate. The project received grant funding from multiple sources.
Second, Meliora developed construction documents for the bidding and construction of the subsurface storage and infiltration bed.
The project was constructed by ThinkGreen.
